April & May '18 - Colston Hall & Legally Blonde
Another two months packed full of work - and they said there were no jobs in music...
After missing a rehearsal due to being in A&E the start of April, I started my job as Musical Director for "Legally Blonde" at Rusty Kettle Production, Bridgewater. They're a brand new company with lots of energy and ambition. We got some sweet-sounding harmonies going in the first half hour! The show is later this August.
UWE Festival Of Sound, Colston Hall
The University of the West of England took over the entire Colston Hall on the 22nd April for their annual "Festival of Sound". The choir/band I direct had a performance slot in the foyer which sounded awesome and got a good reaction from the crowd that had built up as we played.
Beauty and the Beast - Stagecoach
At Stagecoach Portishead, we're in full-swing preparing for our performance of Beauty in the Beast in July as part of a World Record attempt.
Ava in the Dark
I play bass in the Ambient / Indie / Rock band "Ava in the Dark" and we did our first gig in The Lending room, Leeds. We've also been working on writing some original music which is really exciting and we had the chance to play our first single 'Honey' live. 'Honey' is due to be released later next month on the new record label I have founded, 'Blind Night Records' to reignite the music industry there.
Live at Leeds & Dot to Dot Festival
In between work we managed to fit a couple of music festivals in, including Live at Leeds and Dot to Dot Festival, Bristol. There are so many talented up-and-coming bands, maybe we'll be playing these festival next year!?
Kyffin'100 Project - Newdance, Flintshire
As part of this year's 'Dancefest' I'm working with Newdance (a youth dance company in North Wales) to produce a 5 minute dance to composed music inspired by the art of Sir Kyffin Williams (a local Welsh Painter). This is my first time composing to Choreography but I'm enjoying the process as it's producing some beautiful results in rehearsals.
-the show is on the 18th June where I'll be performing the piece on the piano at Theatr Clwyd along with the dance company.
Picture from a Dream
We also recorded the first single for Kiera Bickerstaff, "Picture from a Dream" which involved a mass of recorded instruments including bass accordion, alto sax, and a violin trio comprised of myself, Andrew William Hall and Will Mealing.
The ambient / electronic single was then released on the Blind Night Records label and is available to stream/download:
TiC Tuesdays Workshop
I lead a vocal workshop on "No One Mourns the Wicked" from Wicked the musical. It was great to see so much vocal talent local to North Wales!
The Bristol Groove Collective gig at The Golden Lion, Bristol
My Soul/Pop Choir and their fabulous band played a gig at the Golden Lion which went down a treat!- especially our mashup of 'Figure it Out' by Royal Blood and 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder seemed to be an audience favourite.
