This month started off with a lovely retreat from non-stop work. Kiera (my girlfriend) and I packed our bags and left for a last-minute glimpse of the EU...
After watching Julius Ceasar in Dutch with English subtitles whilst the cast also played the instruments and turned the score in to a Glam-Rock opera, we came back to sober Britain.
Not sober for too long however, as the very next day we saw a band called "Alt-j" on The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare as part of their "Seaside Tour". They played an amazing set of strangely wonderful Alt-Rock music.
I was asked to be the Musical Director for "Nell Gwynn", a Shakesperian comedy musical play by Jessica Swale about Charles II allowing women to act on stage instead of the men playing females. (Read More).
We also saw 'Kiasmos' play the Colston Hall in Bristol! They're an ambient electronic duo consisting of Janus Rasmussen and Ólafur Arnalds (the Broadchurch composer -one of my idols). The atmosphere in the room was amazing, the bass was so powerful and the lighting was super futuristic.
I then traveled to North Wales to do a TiC session -working with all the different age groups, learning songs and practising harmony. (A little bit of FInding Neverland, Rock of Ages and RENT). Reminded me of when I used to go the workshops every week as a youngster...
